One of the many wonderful things about Groke custom aluminum doors is the fact that they are all truly custom made for your home or building application so your door is the perfect fit and specification. Many of our customers love the fact that we can build very wide entry doors… up to 45.5 inches wide usable opening width for single doors(51 inches wide to the outside edges of the jamb). Depending on architectural constraints, having the ability to specify your rough opening width is a great opportunity to go wide! There are many benefits to having a wide door such as increased accessibility for wheelchairs or baby strollers, greater convenience when moving furniture in or out, or simply to make an impressive visual or aesthetic impression. Having a wide, beautiful custom door is easy with Groke! “Custom” is a word you will hear a lot when looking for doors and the term can mean a few different things. In reality, there are different levels of customization available from different manufacturers, and some doors are certainly more custom than others. Often times, the need for a custom door is driven by the fact that the application requires an unusual size. Let’s explore the sizing issue a little deeper. As a general rule in the world of doors and windows, there are “stock” sizes and there are “custom” sizes. Stock doors are manufactured to one of the commonly found standard sizes used in new construction. These doors are often made before a customer orders them and they are kept in stock at a building supply retailer or distributor. Due to economies of scale, a stock size door is usually less expensive than a custom sized door.
There could be many reasons why you might need, or want a custom sized door: you have an older historic home or building with non-stock sized openings, you have newer custom home with unusual sizing, ADA requirements or incorporation of Universal Design principles that offer greater accessibility for everyone(always a smart idea!!!), maybe you just like the look and increased functionality of a larger door, or maybe the architect designed a large, non-stock size door into the plans and you’re looking for the best solution to bring their design intent to fruition. All Groke doors are “custom” built – and sized - just for your project so we don’t have to worry about fitting to a “standard” size. Every Groke door is built down to the exact millimeter/fraction of an inch for a perfect fit in your rough opening. In a similar manner to any custom door replacement, the size of your new Groke door would be determined by the size of your rough opening. In an existing home or building just needing a simple door replacement, the size of the rough opening won’t be changing. The trim around the existing door could be temporarily removed to see and measure the rough opening which is often 2x4 or 2x6 framing in the North American market. For new construction, or a major renovation, you can generally specify the size of the rough opening.
